Kara (kara2(winter magic)
Kara (카라, Japanese: カラ, often stylized as KARA or KaRa) is a South Korean girl group signed with DSP Media (DSP). The band name Kara comes from the Greek Word "chara" (χαρά, lit. "joy"), which the group interpreted to mean "sweet melody".
Kara started as a four-member group and debuted with a "strong female" image through R&B style for their first album The First Blooming in 2007. In 2008, Kim Sunghee departed the group due to parental pressure, and two new members were brought in; as such, the group currently consists of five members: Park Gyuri, Han Seung-yeon, Nicole Jung, Goo Hara,and Kang Jiyoung. The addition of the two new members also faced a change in the group's original image to a "pretty but natural" appeal. The five-member band went on to achieve their first number one song with "Honey".
2007: "Debut"Kara debuted on March 29, 2007 with "Break It" on M! Countdown, from their first album The First Blooming.[5] Two music videos, "Break It" and "If U Wanna," came from this album. Because of their similarity to Fin.K.L and the fact that both groups were signed to the same company, the two were often compared; in response, Kara stated that they regarded the comparison as beneficial and inspiring.[6] As the album was not a commercial success,member Han Seungyeon participated in many TV variety shows in the following months to keep Kara as a group recognizable to the public
2008-2009: "Group image and line-up changes, rise of popularity"The group was scheduled to have their comeback in March 2008 with their second album. However, Kim Sung-hee left the group suddenly due to parental pressure, as her participation in the group was contingent on the maintenance of her grades. In response, DSP stated that the second album would be shelved and replaced by a mini-album to come in May; in addition, two members would join the group. The two new members were eventually revealed to be Goo Hara and Kang Jiyoung. KARA made comeback as a 5-member group on July 24, 2008 with "Rock U" on M! Countdown. They made their comeback with the "cute" and "playful" image. In the same month, their first EP was released

出道
原為四人組合的Kara在2007年3月29日以歌曲〈Break It〉於Mnet《M!Countdown》出道，她們當時以較為成熟、獨立和強硬的女性形象推出首張專輯《The First Blooming》。
成熙的離開，新成員的加入及形象的轉變組合原本會在2008年3月推出她們的第二張專輯，但當時金成熙突然因未能合格大學入學試而受到家長的壓力，為學業退出組合。其後，DSP宣佈Kara將會在5月推出一張迷你專輯，同時亦會透過選秀會選出兩名新成員加入。最後決定該兩名新成員為具荷拉及姜知英。在2008年7月24日，Kara以五人的新姿態以新歌曲〈Rock U〉於Mnet《M!Countdown》回歸，她們的形象亦同時轉變為活潑可愛的女孩。
